Gosh, this one is a tough one for me. I feel prepared in most areas except this. I have read Dave Jones’s book Nuclear War Prepared Not Scared and begun gathering materials to protect us at home. We have set up a containment and decontamination room for entry into the house. Plastic is to be put up, shower down, clothes go in the washer, etc. I have purchased Potassium Iodide Tablets for my family of 4, but my wife and kids don’t take pills, so now we are practicing trying to get them to take pills (which they need to learn how to do anyways) in case we run into this situation. Tic Tacs are great starters. 😉 We all know where to go during this kind of event and what items to grab to head down to the basement. I am working on additional protection around the basement windows now and soon some hydroponics in the basement for continual food production. A long way away still but still taking little steps. Masks and suits are on the list at some point here, but it is difficult prioritizing these over other things like food, water, and energy though. The NukeMap is nice to see how if a nuke goes off in a certain area, how much time we would have, would we be affected, etc.
