AntibioticsBacterial infections are some of the most difficult of infections to deal with, especially in a remote or post-disaster situation. Aside from the continual evolution of antibiotic resistant bacteria, unless you are a trained medical professional you may not even have access to antibiotics. On the other hand, even if you do have access, you may not have the training to use them properly, know which antibiotics to use for what types of infections, recognize dangerous side effects and allergic reactions or know correct dosages to avoid creating a super-infection. For these reasons alone, it is highly advisable to begin learning about how to deal with bacterial infections using medicinal plants.

AntibioticsTo some extent, the notion of “herbal antibiotics” is a misnomer. While there are literally thousands of herbs that are antibacterial in one manner or another, they generally cannot be administered as though they are a one-for-one duplicate of a particular antibiotic. Join Sam Coffman as he explains how we can effectively use medicinal plants for bacterial infections – from external wound infections to internal bacterial infections. Using the correct herbs in the correct manner, we can achieve the same effect as antibiotics for even severe infections, but it’s not as easy or simple as just taking some herbs orally and expecting them to work as though they were a pharmaceutical antibiotic. Sam will explain why this is the case and what we can do about it for effective, post-disaster or remote antibacterial health care.
