Needs vs. Wants – Finding a Balance

There are scales in preparedness that must be balanced at all times. Financial health. Physical health. Mental health. But how do you go about finding the balance in these things? With technology comes ease of access, and information. But just because you can get what you want in a matter of days or moments even, have you put forth the task of determining if you really need it?

This week we are centering our conversation around a simple, yet often difficult task – determining if and when the things we want cross that threshold into what we really need. It’s easy to jump online or head to the sporting goods store and walk out having spent a handful of cash on an item you may rarely use. But when you do – as many of us have – how do you go about justifying the purchase? And your health or happiness – how well do you weigh the things in life you truly need against the things that set you back? When it comes to stores and adding to the stockpile it’s even more of a challenge. On one hand, survival takes the shape of a minimalist apprach. But on the other, stockpiles may not be able to fend off the true need if you don’t have enough to keep your family fed long-term. This week we will be pitting these two concepts against one another and providing a few tips on how you can be confident that every action you take has a sound purpose and makes you more prepared than ever!
