In this show we are going to be discussing an alternate idea for a bug out location. When we think about our bug out location what comes to mind? Do you think of a cabin in the woods, a homestead 30 miles from anywhere with livestock and a stream, or a reinforced underground bunker? How about a major tourist attraction that is visited by hundreds of thousands of people a year?

What would you say if I told you that a place visited by more than half a million people from all across the globe might just be the perfect place to retreat to? Have you ever thought about Colonial Williamsburg and other 18th century demonstration parks as being the perfect place to go?

For those not familiar, the areas of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown were some of the first settlements in the US. They are dated to the 17th and 18th centuries and have been rebuilt to period times. Meaning the technologies, tools, clothing, and skills presented are perfect for grid down. Williamsburg has fully functioning blacksmiths, gunsmiths, book printers, clothing makers, etc. with the skilled tradesmen that know the craft actually reproducing period objects with period materials.

A second plus is that the majority of buildings and homes were built for wood fires. The fireplaces often are built with cooking cranes and many are still in use today using wood as the primary heat and alternate cooking sources. This combined with the fact the area still has dense woods and swamps that support abundant deer, water fowl, and saltwater resources make this place an ideal place to think about.
