Carjacking is any pugnacious attempt at stealing an occupied vehicle.  Thousands of carjackings occur in the United States each year, and if you don’t want to become another victim, keeping a gun in your car at all times is the best option possible.

One of the criteria that we set for a car gun is that it can’t be valuable to you, due to the risk of losing it or getting it beat up, and 1911s tend to be more expensive guns.  Nonetheless, there are manufacturers of 1911s who make reliable models at less expensive prices of around $600-700, including Remington, Ruger, and Springfield.  These aforementioned would be better suited for riding in your car than a nicer version that costs $1,000 or more.

Smith & Wesson Governor

The Smith and Wesson Governor is a six shot, double action revolver chambered in three calibers: .410 Bore, .45 Long Colt, and .45 ACP.

Yes, this is what is called a ‘shotgun revolver,’ and while some may doubt the effectiveness of the .410 in regards to stopping power, the truth is that a .410 buckshot round is equivalent in firepower to three 9mm rounds going off at once.  Undeniably, this is a very appealing option, as all you have to do is point and shoot at close range.

While this means that the 608 as a whole is much wider than other .357s due to the increased round count, it also means that you have more rounds to defend yourself before you have to reload.

The 608 is part of Taurus’ large frame series of revolvers.  The steel used for the gun is hammer forged, while the ported barrel helps to reduce recoil produced from the .357 Magnum round.

 Taurus Judge

The last anti-carjacking gun that we’ll talk about is the Taurus Judge.  The Judge is very similar to the Governor, in that it’s also a double action revolver that fires the .410 Bore round.  However, there are still differences between the Judge and the Governor for you to consider.

First, while the Governor can additionally fire the .45 LC and the .45 ACP round (with moon clips), the Judge can only additionally fire .45 LC.  The Governor also holds six rounds in the cylinder to the Judge’s five.  Depending on your perspective, this may be a positive or a negative factor.  It’s a negative, in that you have one less round before you need to reload, but a positive when you consider that the overall size and weight of the Judge is smaller and therefore easier to conceal in your car.

In addition, the Judge is also available in far more configurations than the Governor is.  Not only are there versions of the Judge that accept three inches .410 shells (whereas the Governor currently only allows two and a half inch shells), it also comes in a greater variety of sizes and barrel lengths.
