Kids, Technology, and Altered RealityTechnology as a tool is an amazing advantage that our kids have over our generation. They have more in the palms of their hands than we did by far, and we had more than our parents. But the ongoing trend of absolute immersion into smart devices has some serious setbacks.

On this episode of The Next Generation Show, we’ll be going over some of the mistakes we’ve made along the way. In many ways, by allowing technology to overstep previous boundaries of parenting, we have even more work to do to reset and reduce technology dependency.

I remember watching my father tear down a computer, with circuitry and cables and hard drives strewn about like a mad scientist. I thought we were on the edge of something great where that old Dick Tracy talking wristwatch may actually become a reality that would advance our culture into something amazing and futuristic. Now, with the smart watch, smart phone, smart TV, smart appliances, etc., how “smart” are we being with these tools?
As I see more and more technology I see less and less critical thought. Fewer people are questioning the next new phone or device until it has already made its way into the home. All the while, Alexa laughs in the background…

Don’t miss out on this episode as we cannibalize some of these devices to uncover their real potential as spy gear, addictive tendencies, and dark nature. And as we dig in, we’ll share a few tips along the way to help you place a safe level of distance between your kids and the devices at hand.

Also, make sure to join us for the Pint Sized Prepper Project of the Week! We will show you a simple, but effective way to build a small scale Faraday Cage for that old flip phone, Pilot, or Garmin that you have tucked away for a rainy day!
