Because of traditions we’ve kept our balance for many many years, Without traditions our lives would be as shaky as, as, As a fiddler on the roof!

Ahhh well known lyrics to the intro song in the musical Fiddler on the Roof! and in actuality a truth. We all have them, traditions, family traditions, social traditions, cultural traditions and religious traditions. Traditions are defined as : a transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on this way. or an artistic or literary method or style established by an author or writer, or movement and subsequently followed by others.

Our lives are made up of tradition, our beliefs they act as a compass for all of our relationships and personal interactions, ultimately the development of civilized societies. We honor traditions as such we learn to honor ourselves and each other. But what about today’s world and tradition? Are we passing them down are we learning from them are we honoring them and ourselves? Something to ponder indeed.

Traditions are never more apparent than during the holiday season, within our families and our social and cultural environments and no better time than to look at tradition and our changing world.
