Are Preppers Being Watched?

Everywhere you look today, you hear about the war on terrorism.  Do we really understand what they are looking for?  Do we really know what criteria they use to describe the people they flag as possible threats?  Do you think people that prep are among those that could be targeted?  These are just a few questions that need to be considered.  These questions are now running strongly through my mind.  Maybe we should all step back and try to answer some of these questions and dig a little deeper into the logic of the situation.

Recently, I have been hearing many stories about local police as well as FBI agents, asking people about their content and statements posted on things like Facebook, YouTube, twitter and so on.  It would appear to me that as long as there is not illegal activity being presented, there should be no cause for such an invasion of privacy.  I can understand that anyone can tell a story.  We have seen people  make false statements, or just have the facts a bit out of order.  When I hear several people telling a story that is basically the same occurrence in different states and having no knowledge of each other, I have to take a step back.  With so many people coming forward to state infringements made on their rights, I have to pose yet another question.  How many people are too scared to speak of what has been done to them?  Many people will roll their eyes and not listen to these stories.  They want to see this happen for themselves. Would you have the presence of mind to grab a video camera if the cops were at your front door?

FEMA has detailed disaster preparedness planning offered on their website. They instruct you to have a plan and supplies such as several days of food stored in your home.  To me, it sounds like they are telling us that we should prepare.  As a prepper, I believe I have done everything they suggest.  Further research will tell you that having a stock pile of items such as food, guns, ammunition, and so forth will also label you as showing early warning signs of being a terrorist.  Home Land Security has posted such instruction on how to report people that may fall into these categories.  We are to be on the lookout for anyone stocking such items or making large purchases that seem suspicious.  So now it seems to be up to every citizen to look at each other and try to find the criminals.  We are instructed to report anyone that may seem to us to be capable of terrorism.  By their standards, any of us that own too many guns, knives or stock pile food could be a possible threat.

Many people will not think about the questions posed here.  Today people are too busy to notice when our rights are being stripped from us one by one.  Not very long ago, I would have fallen into the same category as these busy Americans.  I feel there will come a time when we will all be asking ourselves, is there something more I should be looking at?  I will not try to convince you one way or the other.  I do hope that you are aware of what is going on around us.  You should never believe anything without first doing your own research.  Stop for minute and think of how you would handle being questioned about what you do.

After all this has been considered, I have decided to become as informed about this as I can.  I do my own research and come to my own conclusions.  We cannot expect others to tell us the laws or protect them for us.  It is our responsibility to know what the laws are and to protect ourselves from wrong doing.  I hope that after reading this article, you will make the choice to be aware.  If we are mentally prepared for what may come, we will know how to react.
