This week on Herbal Prepper Live we’re covering cold weather injuries. It is that time of year again. The temperatures are dropping. We have wrapped up our beehives to keep them warm for the winter. Its only the middle of November, and we have had our second light snow of the year in New England, and more is sure to be on the way. This means skiing, sledding, ice skating, snowshoeing, and maybe even some time out on a snowmobile. It is also hunting season right now.

The news has already started blathering on and on about the “polar vortex” again, whatever that is. The Farmer’s Almanac has predicted an even colder winter than last year when the polar vortex first made news. All I know is that winter has arrived, ahead of schedule, and it looks like those Farmer’s Almanac people might be on to something.

So it’s cold. There will be snow. People will go outside. If not to enjoy the snow, at least to shovel it out of their way. People will also be injured by the cold, especially when that cold is wet. This is when the risk of hypothermia is the highest. Would you know how to recognize the symptoms? You will after this week’s show.

In this episode, we will discuss frost nip, frostbite, chilblains, trenchfoot, and hypothermia. I will cover how to assess someone for hypothermia, and what happens to both the heart and to the pancreas when a person has been out in the cold for too long. We will also be talking about how to prevent injuries like these from happening, as well as provide some first aid and herbal medicine to care for these conditions.
