Where do you stand? In today’s world its common to hear the phrase that “If your not moving forward than your simply going backward.” Its said in many ways but that’s the gist of it. When you talk about a prepper’s path you are really talking about a fork in the road.

One path is the way towards buying and inventory. It’s the idea that you stockpile your way out of a disaster. For the common person with a fixed budget this method can work. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing bad about buying your way to preparedness. There is nothing wrong with filling out checklists.

However, it’s a very stale way to enjoy the act of preparing. It’s a completely reactive way of life and the more fear or panic you can induce in yourself, often the more effective your buying and money saving can be.

Path number two is something that takes more time and it is not the quick fix that most new preppers are looking for. Path two is the combination of your daily life and a life of preparedness and self-reliance. This can have far reaching implications because in path one you can deny your desire for preparedness but path two requires that you wear it on your sleeve.

I mean by owning chickens, big gardens, canning foods, making candles, soaps, writing plans, practicing those plans. Path two is also much more about expanding your skills and learning to manipulate the world around you. Things like foraging, wild medicine, building, cooking and tactical skills start to root themselves in you.

You can survive a disaster with path number one but you will never get the fullness out of prepping that you will if you are taking path number two. Which type of prepper are you. Be honest. You could easily be between paths and that is pretty common.
