Sara F. Hathaway "Day After Disaster"Join me this week as I have the pleasure of interviewing Sara F. Hathaway, author of the post-apocolyptic novel, Day After Disaster, the first installment of the Changing Earth Series. In a field dominated by male authors and male main characters, Sara brings a new voice and perspective into the genre. In Day After Disaster, the focus is on a female main character, a wife and mother, with a quick-thinking mind and a unique set of skills, including some knowledge of herbs and local plants.

As stated in the book’s description on Amazon.com:

Sara F. Hathaway "Day After Disaster"“Day After Disaster by Sara F. Hathaway is an apocalyptic, adventure novel, featuring a dynamic young woman, mother and wife, Erika, who is thrust into a world turned upside down by a series of natural disasters. Finding herself alone in a city mutilated by this disastrous situation, she must save herself. Once free of the city confines, she desperately tries to navigate through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to get back home to her family. Not knowing if they are alive or dead she must call on all of her survival instincts to plot a course through this broken environment.”

From Sara F. Hathaway Author Biography:

“As a child, growing up in rural Michigan, I fished the Great Lakes with my family, gardened and canned with my mother, shot rifles and shotguns with my grandfather, and learned to bow hunt, and process animals with my neighbor. I also had a horse who was my best buddy and we spent many days in the woods together. At the age of sixteen I moved to Northern California. Here I graduated from the California State University of Sacramento, met my husband, and had two beautiful boys.

My inspiration for my writing comes from a few areas. Fist of all it comes from the deep love that I have for my husband and my two sons. It also comes from my respect for the natural world around us. Finally, I draw from my disappointment with society’s tendency to rely so heavily upon technology and forget the ancient crafts that many of our former generations survived off of for centuries.”

There is a preview of Chapter 5 on her site, plus links to interviews with survival experts on topics raised in various chapters of Day After Disaster. This is sure to be a great conversation, so be sure to hear this episode!
