I bet some folks got a handheld radio in their Christmas Stocking this year. I bet also, some may be having a hard time figuring out how it works too. This Saturdays show is about personal communications, to help those poor souls who may think a little bunch of transistors has beat them. We talk about a popular gift choice for many concentrating on survival or prepping.

There are many different handheld UHF/VHF radios that have flooded the market, in low cost communications gear. Great little radios, but some with a steeper learning curve to contend with, than with most other gadgets. As a licensed Ham, I’ll offer some tips to help understand how these radios work.

The cold winter months is a great time to get familiar with radio communications, since it commonly is an indoor sport. Stuck inside in a blizzard is a perfect time to be sure you’re able to contact to the outside world.
