The days of Zombies are behind us, or are they? Wait? What? Zombie days? I’m going to use a double a tundra here with Zombie Days. We had them, days of zombie attacks, but we as a society were put into a zombie daze. I firmly believe one hundred percent that zombies are real. But not in the sense that the movies depict. They aren’t recently risen dead hungry for our flesh, they are sick, virus infected individuals driven by madness and strong. Sounds like rabies.

In 2010, National Geographic did a piece on a flu-rabies hybrid. That the CDC knew about and was covering up. They stated it could cause 28 Days later Rage style symptoms. This wasn’t above top secret or one of those conspiracy sites, this was National Geographic.

Two years later, it started. The stories were quickly dismissed as the ‘biter’ being on a hallucinogen. Such as with Eugene Rudy, the infamous Miami biter, who chomped the face off of a homeless. Rudy was shot several times and even growled at a police officer. Autopsy showed only traces of marijuana in his blood. But Miami was only the first limelight, it wasn’t the first attack.

Here is a list of bite attacks that occurred around the Miami attack. Simply look up the title on Google and the stories come up.

5-29-2012 – Police: Hackensack man stabbed himself and threw intestines at officers

In every instance, the biter died. It is still happening, people are still attacking via bite. This is something we need to take seriously. A zombie apocalypse won’t happen overnight like in Dawn of the Dead, it will take years to accumulate and eventually the world will succumb. There is something out there, very real that is causing zombie like behavior.

This week on Apocalypse Nana, preparation for Walking Dead (There will be a dedicated show for that) We talk about all things zombie. We will discuss such things as are they real, can they be real, what can we do and of course, some cool zombie trivia.

We brought back some fan favorites for this week’s show, both have written Zombie books.

Shana Fest returns. She is a delightful, perky and talented woman with a zest for the undead. We asked her about her take on zombies and this is what she said. “The primal urge to feed, to never rest; zombies are a scary concept. Like a dog with a bone, they never give up. Not only that, but they are everywhere, lurking in shadows and waiting for stimuli to pull them from inertia.

Here is an excerpt from her book Time of Death.

In the midst of what is surely the worst storm Floridians have seen all year, we are getting reports of extreme violence throughout the community. Law enforcement officials recommend all non-essential personnel remain in their homes until what they are calling ‘civil disobedience’ has been contained. We have received news that St. Vincent’s hospital has been overrun with crazed citizens. Reports state that there has been an outbreak of what medical professionals have determined is a form of the rabies virus. Highly contagious through transmission of saliva and blood, this pathogen has a 100% infection rate and is believed to have originated from a female patient at St. Vincent’s Hospital. The hospital has been placed under quarantine and we have been asked to direct anyone exhibiting symptoms of the infection to St. Mary’s Hospital on Metro Parkway in Fort Myers.

Does that not sound like something we just mentioned?

Also with us is author, former CIA man, and zombie pin up master, Scott Baker. He knows his dead and wants to share his insights. Perhaps he knows some of those secret CIA cover up stories.

This is what Scott said about his take on zombies. “The scariest thing about zombies is their relentless determination. Zombies know nothing but the desire to consume human flesh, and nothing very little will stop them. They do not tire, they do not feel pain, they do give up. Sure, we can outrun them, but zombies have greater endurance and far greater numbers than we do. The deck is always stacked against us.”

And he is a squeamishly good excerpt on zombies from his book, Rotter World.

The moan of the living dead shattered the stillness of the night. More than fifty zombies congregated around the warehouse’s front façade, stumbling along with slow, awkward movements. A handful lumbered around the abandoned military-green shuttle bus parked to the left of the building. Those in front of the warehouse clawed and banged at the sliding metal door built into the wall, each swipe leaving a smear of rotten flesh and blood. Undeterred by the futility of their attempts, the zombies kept up their assault, desperate to get at the food inside. A quiet but steady droning underscored the scene, coming from the thousands of flies feeding off of the living dead.

And of course, we have the loveable and knowledgeable RW Clinger, RW has been hush-hush about a zombie weapon he created and is now awaiting the patent. RW has this to say, “People over estimate the strength they have. Believing they can easily impale an attacking zombie with ease. Realistic fear sets in, and in the onset of a Zombie attack, most people who could survive won’t because they’ll not have the reactions. My weapon will protect all. Even the weak.”
