Survival Know How!
Survival Know How
Host: Jacqueline Druga “Apocalypse Nana”
To steal the opening Line from the Apocalypse Nana Show – Who says Learning can’t be fun? We prove that it can be this week on Apocalypse Nana. We have invited guest, both returning and new to the show to quiz them on their survival know how. Some will succeed, some will not.
A variety of questions will be posed to the guests. Not only will these questions be fun, but they will be informative to you, the listener. They will deal with survival tips, scenarios, past historical situations, and of course, movie trivia. The winning guest has a Starbucks gift card with their name on it. We also invite our listeners to not only call in with questions, but to answer questions as well. It will be a fun time. When isn’t it?
Joining us this week are new guest, David Dietz. Hailing from the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA, David Dietz is an actor, stage/screen writer, filmmaker, and audiobook producer/narrator. He has “pounded the boards” in productions ranging from Shakespeare to Simon (Neil, that is), and appeared in such films as “End Game,” “Strange Girls,” and “Death from Above.” In 2012, he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in “Indemnity” (aka “Indemnity: Rage of a Jealous Vampire”). His audiobook narration credits include “My Stupid Girl,” “Words with My Father,” and “Halfskin.” He has also written three plays that have received numerous productions. For more information, please visit dietzthethird.com or zd3-productions.com.
When we asked about David’s survival knowledge, he said, “I’d like to think that the knowledge I’ve gleaned from all those Discovery Channel survival shows would come in handy in an actual survival situation. But honestly, I’m pretty sure my pasty white ass would be grass out in the bush.”
Returning to the show is Shana Festa. Shana is a registered nurse with clinical experience in mental health, geriatrics, HIV and substance abuse. In addition to her clinical background, Shana possesses over 15 years of experience with project management and data analytics. Under her alter ego, The Bookie Monster, Shana reviews horror and paranormal books, with an emphasis on (but not limited to) zombie fiction. With a background in Psych Nursing, Shay brings her unique perspective to the literary community.
Shana loves hearing from readers. Visit her author website, www.shanafesta.com for more information on Shana and her writing. She can also be found on Twitter, @BookieMonsterSF, and Facebook, www.facebook.com/timeofdeath.book.
When asked about her survival knowledge, she said, “My knowledge of survival trivia is pretty straight forward. I only need to run faster than the slowest person in the group. Considering I’d likely be the slowest in the group, I’m ultimately screwed. To save face, I’ve told my husband this is why I’m fattening myself up…so he has the extra time to get away. I’m just that good of a wife.” Well, let’s hope Shana’s knowledge is better than her sprinting.
And also, back by viewer vote, Scott Baker. I am not sure if the viewers are excited to have him return or throw him under the trivia bus. When I asked Scott abot his knowledge, he said, “My survival skills are basic. I’m prepared to hunker down and wait out any crisis lasting no more than a month. Anything longer than that, and I’d have to wing it. At that point, I’d be relying on the survival skills I have, the ability to adapt to any situation, and a desire to do whatever was necessary to protect my family (I guess you could say I would go into Rick mode).” Although we asked him about trivia. Notice he evaded the question.
Scott M. Baker was born and raised in Everett, Massachusetts and spent twenty-three years in northern Virginia working for the Central Intelligence Agency. Scott is now retired and lives in Gainesville, Florida as a full-time writer along with his wife and fellow author Alison Beightol and his stepdaughter. He has written Yeitso, his homage to the giant monster movies of the 1950s that he loved watching as a kid; The Vampire Hunters trilogy, about humans fighting the undead in Washington D.C.; as well as Rotter World, which details the struggle between humans and vampires during a zombie apocalypse. Scott is currently working on the next two books in the Rotter World saga and a series of young adult post-apocalyptic fiction. Scott M. Baker, author of Rotter World and The Vampire Hunters trilogy
Cohost this week is Dominic Bianco, the resident mild manner, even keeled, Apocalypse Nana screw member, we look forward to the questions he brings.
RW? Well … we hope he pops by in some way. Although Apocalypse Nana just doesn’t have to ration, she has to buy more booze when RW is in the house.
