Spiritual Preparedness The Hard Questions!
Host: Lynna “The Other Side… A Preppers Path

SpiritualSpirituality and the prepper, does it really have anything to do with preparation? What’s that old saying there are two things you never discuss, politics and religion! To be honest it’s not the intent of Sunday’s Other Side of a Preppers Path to do either, but what’s that? Didn’t you just say spirituality, isn’t that religion? Therein lays the rub, often when the term spirituality is used people immediately think religion.

The term religion is defined thus “Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence” (Source Wikipedia) According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world. That’s a whole lot of people and a whole lot of beliefs.

1-12 spirituality-332x205Spirituality is loosely defined as the search for “the sacred,” where “the sacred” is broadly defined as that which is set apart from the ordinary and worthy of veneration. Spirituality has been defined in numerous ways. These include: a belief in a power operating in the universe that is greater than oneself, a sense of interconnectedness with all living creatures, and an awareness of the purpose and meaning of life and the development of personal, absolute values. It’s the way you find meaning, hope, comfort, and inner peace in your life. Although spirituality is often associated with religious life, many believe that personal spirituality can be developed outside of religion (Source: Spirituality | University of Maryland Medical Center http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/treatment/spirituality#ixzz2qBBeXFKm)

1-12 spirituality-lies-not-in-the-power-to-heal-sri-daya-mataIn order to be fully prepared and live a life of Preparedness one must be ready/prepared in all areas of life, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. We often address the physical (tools, food, water, shelter, etc.) the mental (mindset) and emotional (our emotional state during and after disaster) but how often do we talk about the spiritual part. Normally it’s not often you hear the two words paired together prepping & spirituality, partly because of the reluctance to tread on religious ground. Sunday 1/12/14 the Other Side of a Preppers Path takes a look at spirituality and how understanding, developing and preparing yourself spiritually is a huge part of the puzzle of living life prepared.
